Waltham Abbey stole a point at Redbridge on Tuesday night with a last-minute equaliser.

The in-form Chinedu McKenzie opened the scoring three minutes before half-time from the penalty spot to give the Motormen the lead.

And it looked like staying that way, but in the 90th minute a dramatic twist saw the Abbotts draw level. Jason Hallett was brought down inside the penalty area with Dapo Abitogun sent-off for the challenge.

From the resulting penalty, John Docker ensured Abbey left Oakside with a point.

Two goals in two minutes of first-half stoppage team were enough to see Waltham Abbey knocked out the FA Trophy preliminary round thanks to a 3-1 defeat at Northwood on Saturday.

Rob Hastings opened the scoring for the hosts when he latched onto a long ball from goalkeeper Berkley Laurencin to fire home the opener.

Ismael Ehui then helped himself to a second for the Southern League Division One Central side when he was played in one-on-one and clipped over Abbotts goalkeeper Ronnie Yates.

A free-kick from Jon Dockett got Paul Wickenden’s side back in the contest after the break, but the Abbey were unable to find a leveller and the result was secured when Michael Murray put through his own goal to seal the win for the Woods.

Redbridge also exited the FA Trophy at the preliminary round stage after surrendering the lead to lose 2-1 at home to Whyteleafe.

Defeat for the Motormen brings to an end a run of four straight victories in all competitions.

The Ryman League Division One South high-fliers were behind ten minutes before the break when Vinny Murphy fires home a long-range free-kick at the near post.

However Bentley Graham levelled for Whyteleafe from close-range just before the break to tie the score up at 1-1.

The Surrey side then secured their passage into the next round when Jason Thompson scored a free-kick of his own, with the goal eventually proving the winner for the visitors.

In the Essex Senior League, Waltham Forest made it three wins in a row by beating Enfield 1893 4-1.

Steve Hutchinson gave Enfield the lead after two minutes, but James Ogunleye equalised for Forest in the 35th minute.

Three goals in five second-half minutes then capped victory for Forest, with Alan Callaghan (2) and Solomon Ofori both netting.
