Crostyx’s let a two-goal lead slip as their tough start to the season continued after a 3-2 home defeat to Bourne Deeping in East Division One.

It didn’t take long for the breakthrough to come, as a quick counter attack saw Jake Burke charge down the right hand side, playing advantage after a foot in the D, and knocking the ball back to Chris Campbell, who slotted the ball inside the keeper’s near post.

With the first half coming to a close, Crostyx won a short corner which was executed to perfection. The-well planned routine saw Tim Watson exchange passes in the D before crashing the ball home to double their lead.

As it looked like Crostyx were heading into half-time two goals to the good, Bourne Deeping earned a short corner which they profited from to pull one back.

Chances were hard to come by and with Crostyx going down to ten men, a decent move from Bourne Deeping saw them equalise.

Kym Osborne’s tireless energy and work rate pegged Bourne Deeping back as Crostyx looked to regain the lead. The kick in the teeth arrived when a deflected short corner found its way into the roof of the net to give Bourne Deeping the lead.

Despite Crostyx’s best efforts, including forcing the keeper into an excellent reflex save, Bourne Deeping held on.

The side will hope to bounce back on Saturday when they travel to St Ives.

Crostyx Seconds were beaten 4-2 at Old Southendians in Division Four South East.

The early stages of the match left Crostyx living on the edge, as a number of misplaced passes meant goalkeeper Tom Miller had to come to the rescue on more than one occasion.

Old Southendians eventually managed to convert a short corner, but Crostyx responded with their first short corner attempt, a straight strike by skipper Paul Murphy.

Old Southendians then scored a second but there were positive signs that more chances would appear for Crostyx.

This duly happened when Jay Akbar scored on his debut. But Crostyx old boy Simon Worrall then netted, before Crostyx had a chance from the penalty spot to equalise for a third time. But the penalty was saved by the Old Southendians keeper and a late effort ensured Southendians claimed the victory.

A local derby at the weekend ensued that Crostyx were on their toes and ready for the challenge. Upminster didn’t know what hit them after a early goal from Emma Haggart.

The second goal came from a short corner set piece with training paying off as Alys Hackett released a bullet drag flick low and hard past the keeper.

The final goal of the match came in the first half when another short corner routine found Sophie Smith-Daltrey on the post and she expertly laid back to Hackett to rocket the ball into the back of the net.

Crostyx went out in search of more goals, with a succession of short corners and fine footwork from Sarah Belsham and Ciara Newell, but they were unable to convert.

There was some drama when player of the match Aimee Daltrey dislocated her shoulder at the top of the D after a nasty fall. But this didn’t faze her for long and she was back on the pitch within minutes.

A reverse stick lift over the keeper from Fryer-Green resulted in the third goal of the game and put the final nail in the coffin for Forest.
