Isthmian Division One North

Goalkeeper Mark Parker saved an injury-time penalty for Redbridge to preserve a 2-1 win over Dereham Town on Saturday.

With the Motormen leading in additional time, the visitors were awarded a penalty but Parker dived full length to parry Aaron Kay's effort and ensure the points stayed put.

The Magpies started the stronger of the two sides, with Nathan Page, Ryan Hawkins and Toby Hiliard all spurning opportunities to put the visitors in front early on.

Redbridge refused to learn their lesson and were eventually punished when after eight minutes, possession was gifted to Ryan Crisp, who fired home with aplomb.

Hawkins ought to have doubled the lead a minute later as Dereham pushed for a second. The Redbridge response came via Mark Nougher, who swept wide.

Nougher made his next opportunity count though, converting a penalty after 24 minutes to level the scores.

Redbridge started the second period in ideal fashion as Vinny Murphy cleverly chipped visiting keeper Andrew Wilton to put the Motormen in front.

The Magpies chased the game unsuccessfully until Kay was handed the chance to level from 12 yards, only to find Parker in his way.

Redbridge host Canvey Island in the Essex County Cup fourth round tonight (Tuesday) and make the trip to Brightlinsea Regent on Saturday.

Waltham Abbey conceded an injury-time penalty at Romford to drop two points on Saturday.

In a game of few chances it was Romford's Abs Seymour who had the best opening of the first half when he fired over from Tom Richardson's cross.

The Abbotts then took the lead after 27 minutes when a cross from the right-hand flank was met by James Elmes, who crashed home from close-range.

After the break the home side enjoyed the lion's share of possession without finding a way past Abbey keeper James May.

In the 90th minute a long ball forward was flicked into the path of Richardson, who in just reaching the ball before May, was brought down for a penalty.

The winger took the resulting kick himself and ensured a share of the spoils for the hosts.

Waltham Abbey are at home to Dereham Town on Saturday.
