Six-handicap Mark Deeming captured the Winter Championship prize at Woodford Golf Club on Saturday.

He amassed 154 stableford points to beat 16-handicap Kevin Williamson, five points behind, with Mark Bonham (handicap 12) third on 148 points.

The Winter 36-hole Trophy was won by Ben Cooney after a count-back from Paul Evans when both finished with 78 points.

Third was Neil Robinson on 71 points. In the Winter Bucket competition, John Mansfield prevailed with 39 points, one better than Vince Thompson, with Stephen Bland third on 35 points.

The first major event to mark the 125th anniversary of the formation of Woodford GC will be held at the Sunset Avenue course on Monday (March 30) when the club stages a pro-am event.

Sixteen professionals from clubs within the Essex Golf Union will team up with 48 amateurs over 18 holes.

The first four-ball will tee off at 10am in the event sponsored by Hills of Woodford, the motor dealers.
