Mark Cavendish won the final stage of the Tour of California on Sunday – his 13th victory of the season – and finished top of the sprints classification.
The 29-year-old came 67th overall in the event as Peter Sagan of Tinkoff-Saxo scooped a dramatic victory.
Cavendish, who has a property in Ongar, had previously claimed wins on stages one, two and five and also won the sprints classification by finishing ahead of Slovakian Sagan.
The ‘Manxman’s’ 75 points were enough to top the sprint category and see the Etixx – Quick-Step rider finish in style.
It was a comfortable victory for Cavendish, who breezed home in 2.14.55 with Wouter Wippert and Sagan in pursuit.
