Woodford Golf Club professional Kenny Banks completed a marathon 125 holes in one day to mark the 125th anniversary of club on Sunday.

He used the same ball throughout and scored nine birdies using just a seven-iron to drive, chip and putt on 14 circuits of the nine-hole Sunset Avenue course.

He said that his best 18 holes came soon after dawn when he shot a 77 gross.

Club members accompanied him a times on his jaunt, which was also aimed to raise funds for Haven House children’s charity.

He received applause from members as he sank his putt on hole 125 in the early evening and then a loud ovation when the tired player entered the clubhouse for a welcome drink.

Michael Cutter captured the Barber Challenge Cup for players with handicaps of 14 and above on Saturday.

He came in with 40 stableford points to win by two points. Steve Pardoe pipped John Mansfield for the runner-up spot on a count-back.
