Chingford fighter Boy Jones Jnr. will fight for just the fourth time in his short professional career at Wembley Arena tomorrow (Friday). Yet the 18-year-old super-featherweight is not fazed, and with good reason.

Boy, real name Ben, made his professional debut earlier this year on the undercard as Tyson Fury defeat Christian Hammer to land the WBO International heavyweight title at the O2 Arena.

Jones Jnr (2-1-0). made his bow with a four-round points win over Joe Beeden. A first knockout against Aaron Flinn followed three months later before a draw with Jamie Quinn at the beginning of June at York Hall.

Now though, Jones Jnr. is on Friday’s Frank Warren show at Wembley Arena, the same card as Dereck Chisora, Billy Joe Saunders and Frank Warren stablemates Frank Buglioni and Lee Markham.

But Jones Jnr. is the very definition of laid back about the whole affair.

“Even though I have fought at the O2 Arena and Friday will be at Wembley Arena, there is still a ring inside these venues,” he said. “Wembley Arena will still have a ring inside no matter what it looks like on the outside – it is just like a bigger gym,” he chuckled.

Jones Jnr. continued: “It is good to be getting on these big cards and eventually it will get me used to the idea of one day filling out these kinds of arenas.

“Everyone gets nervous but boxing is starting to feel like a proper job to me now and I am getting used to everything; it is still exciting.”

The teenager is not quite as a carefree in every aspect of his preparation though.

Jones Jnr. will enter Wembley Arena knowing just one thing about his opponent on Friday evening. But he likes it that way. Indeed, his opponent’s name had yet to be publicised online as of Tuesday.

It is not uncommon for fighters to state their preference for focusing on their own attributes ahead of fight night rather than talking up the man they will go toe-to-toe with. But Jones Jnr. takes that mantra one step further.

“I do not like to know who I am going to face,” he revealed. “I know he is a southpaw and he will be a good test but that is honestly all I know.

“If I know his name I am going to get straight on Google and search his name and that will get me worried about things I don’t like, what his record is like and who he has fought.

“My trainers, Dominic Negus and Lenny Butcher, know to keep his name from me,” he added.

Jones Jnr. finished by admitting his favourite part of the evening is walking out to his support – just don’t expect him to be giving the man he is meeting a second’s thought as he makes the journey.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, another Chingford fighter maintained his unbeaten streak. Tom Baker (12-0) overcame super-middleweight Darren Cruise at York Hall on points in a ten-round contest.
