West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic said there was “no excuses” for his side as they went down 4-1 to Tottenham Hotspur.

His set were carved open on several occasions as the Hammers lost only their second away game of the season.

“We deserved to lose 4-1 to be fair. We prepared this game, it is a derby and we looked good in training but we could not put it on the pitch.

“We started ok, but we were too deep and we allowed them to come close to our box without doing something special.

West Ham went behind after 22 minutes when Harry Kane scored his first of the evening but the visitors could have easily equalised moments later when Cheikhou Kouyate rattled the crossbar.

Downbeat after the game, Bilic bemoaned the conceding of the four goals.

He said: “Surprise is a word for something good, it was a shock. The second goal was a cheap one from the corner kick.

“Apart from the goals in the first half I still thought we could come back and we created some good stuff in front of their box. We just needed one good ball or a bit more quality.

“After the third goal, it killed the game and after that it was all them. There are no excuses. We need to put this game to bed as soon as possible.”

Bilic refused to pin the defeat on the injury of Dimitri Payet, West Ham’s standout player of the season.

“When I say no excuses I mean Payet as well, he is our best player. We are going to be without him for nine, ten or eleven weeks. We have enough quality in our team to replace him but it cannot be up to one player to improve the whole team.”

West Ham face West Brom next weekend and will be keen to make amends from their performance at White Hart Lane.
