LEYTON Orient forward Jordan Bowery praised the team’s performance in their 2-1 victory over Morecambe at the weekend.

Even though Orient were unable to keep a clean sheet, the back four remained solid throughout with Callum Kennedy coming in along with Tom Parkes, Yvan Erichot and Nicky Hunt.

Bowery has thoroughly enjoyed his time with the O’s since joining in the summer and believes the East London club can improve their home form.

He netted his first goal for the club on Saturday and hopes he can continue to add to his tally this season.

“Coming to Morecambe in the wet conditions and obviously with them top of the league, we knew we had to fight and I think it was a well-deserved three points,” said Bowery.

“Defensively from front to back we looked comfortable apart from the goal, which was a misunderstanding, but we bounced back terrifically.

“The back four were solid, I thought they were terrific and we didn’t really look like conceding apart from the one mistake.

“Those mistakes happen, especially in this division, but I thought we were brilliant overall.

“It’s always a bit of a downer conceding how we did and so early into the second half, but I felt we bounced back terrifically to edge back in front. For me to get the goal as well is a big weight off my shoulders.

“The shot took a bit of a deflection but now that I have scored my first goal it is something I am looking to push on with and hopefully they will keep on coming thick and fast.”

The O’s travel to Carlisle at the weekend and with 257 O’s fans travelling up to the west coast last week they could appear in their numbers once again on Saturday.

Bowery said: “These two trips are a long way but fair play to the fans that came to Morecambe, respect to them as that is a long way.

“Hopefully we will see them all again next week.

“To have over 250 supporters come and make the journey was unbelievable.

“We got the train up and that was long enough, but for the fans to be driving up and turning out in their numbers is fantastic.

“Fair play to them, the team appreciate their support.”

In what now appears to be shaping into O’s boss Andy Hessenthaler’s most frequent starting XI, Paul McCallum and the 25-year-old have created a partnership on the pitch that was hard for the Shrimpers defence to deal with.

Bowery added: “In pre-season we never really played together but I know what he is capable of and he knows my strengths.

“We have been working well together, I like the partnership.”

“It is always nice to get a goal, especially for the win, but we could have got more, but we will take it now.”

But as much as their away form is on the up as they remain unbeaten, their home record has been leaving O’s fans with more to desire.

The forward said the team are well aware they need to make Brisbane Road a fortress this season if they want to win promotion.

He said: “Morecambe were top of the league so it was always going to be a tough game but it has given us confidence, and we have got to take every game one day at a time.

“Hopefully we can pick our home form up and as long as we are getting some wins it is going well.

“We do want to get the home games sorted but as long as we continue to get away wins we will take it as it comes at the moment.”

There is competition for places everywhere on the pitch which still remains a positive point for the O’s.

“We have got class all over the pitch,” said the former Oxford United player.

“We can change the team if we want, so we’ve got a strong squad. We know we’re a strong team so we just need to keep pushing on.”
