Robbie Weir was blown away with how much support he received from Leyton Orient fans during his suspension on the sidelines.

The O’s captain missed games against Barnet, Portsmouth and Luton before returning in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Hartlepool United.

The 27-year-old took to Twitter to tell the Orient faithful he was disappointed with how he has performed this season.

“There is nothing better than playing football. It has been a long three weeks,” said the former Burton Albion player.

“I need to get my match fitness back up where it needs to be but that will come. It is great to be back out there after the suspension.

“I was overwhelmed with the fans, obviously with their reaction to it. But I have to be honest with myself, the way I have started the season has been awful.

“I have got standards from where I was last year and I want to get back to that level.

"Maybe this little setback I had from the sending off is a blessing in disguise. I am ready and I am hungry now.”

Weir was given a place straight back in Orient’s starting XI last weekend as Liam Kelly and Harry Cornick are both out with long-term injuries.

The midfielder added: “Liam is out right now through injury. I am ready to grasp this chance with two hands and prove a point.”

Orient face Crewe Alexandra on Saturday at home at Brisbane Road.

With the O’s still not recording a win at E10 since August it is vital they gain momentum as they look to push up the table.

He said: “Saturday’s win means nothing if we don’t win at the weekend. If we don’t win we are back to square one so we cannot get carried away.

“We have only won one game and we are not in the right position where we need to be in the table. There is a lot of work in progress so we are hopefully getting there.”

An enormous talking point this season for Orient is how the results have not clicked for them at the Matchroom Stadium.

They have won just one and lost six since the start of the season and O’s boss Alberto Cavasin recorded two defeats in his first two games in charge at the east London ground.

“The results have not clicked at home but all the results have not clicked this season,” Weir added, “It is something all the lads want to change. Before Saturday’s game we needed a win.

“We went out and proved we could win. Our home record is something we want to change as it is our home.

“It is going to be no different at the weekend. The boys are going to go out and prove a point. This is our home and we need to start picking up results.”

The match against Crewe kicks off at 3pm.
