West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic hailed a “great point” for his side after the Hammers held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

The Londoners led after just 90 seconds as Diafra Sakho headed in Dimitri Payet’s free kick before Zlatan Ibrahimovic levelled for the hosts.

While Bilic felt his side could have taken more form the game, he was left satisfied with the efforts of his players after they withstood United pressure to claim a valuable point.

“It might have been more but it is a great point for us, especially as we played good. I have to praise the players, who showed character, commitment and quality, especially in the second half,” he told the BBC.

“In the first half, when we scored we were a little bit afraid we were winning at Old Trafford and then until they scored we lost too many balls.”

The start of the second half saw Sakho and Payet go close to restoring the lead before the home side began to create chances late on.

West Ham could have taken all three points when Ashley Fletcher saw a late effort well saved by David De Gea.

Bilic claimed a change of tact at the break allowed the Hammers to grow into the game and was delighted with their second half showing He said: "In the second half, we told the players to go up on them and I was very pleased how we played.

“You can't attack here all the time, they tried to press when they lost the ball and if you get out of that there is a lot of space. We were using that really good in the second half."

Darren Randolph showed fine reactions in the West Ham goal as he made a string of impressive stops to maintain parity.

The Republic of Ireland international had played the last two games in place of the under fire Adrian and made a strong case to continue in the West Ham goal.

Bilic was eager to protect Adrian but did take time to highlight the quality of Randolph’s display.

He said: "He deserved the chance. Make no mistake, it's not Adrian's fault we are in this position but Darren deserved a chance and he did really well."
