So last week, after 52 days and 10 games culminating in eight losses, breaking a previous record of home defeats and suffering a humiliating loss in the FA Cup, the club’s hierarchy ended Alberto Cavasin’s reign as manager, write Fan’s View columnists Paul Levy and Steve Nussbaum.

Unfortunately, we can’t say we were surprised by this given the performances, particularly last week against Exeter City, who were bottom of the league before they won at Brisbane Road. Cavasin was on a hiding to nothing.

His record in his previous job at Sampdoria was poor, he hadn’t worked in football for five years and he didn’t speak a word of English which meant he couldn’t communicate to the players during the game.

Retribution was swift and, after the Exeter match, Andy Edwards was put in charge until the end of the season with Danny Webb to assist him.

This is the appointment that the majority of O’s fans wanted, and although this appointment should have been made after Andy Hessenthaler had left the club, we finally have the man in charge who should have been given the role previously.

Andy’s first game was a tricky one at Doncaster Rovers, who are riding high in League Two and have one of the best home records in the division.

Although there were encouraging signs (Callum Kennedy’s free-kick, Alex Cisak’s saves, defenders putting their bodies on the line and defending, youth players playing – Myles Judd, Aron Pollock, Josh Koroma – Andy on the touchline instructing and communicating with players), we were comfortably beaten 3-1.

Now the real work starts for Andy and Danny. There is a two-week break until the next match on Saturday, December 10 where we entertain Accrington Stanley.

Andy has two weeks to start to get his ideas across to his players and rebuild this squad into a functioning team again.

Surely certain factors will be on Andy’s agenda: Confidence – Confidence has been destroyed lately and if Andy can build this up in the players that will be half the battle won.

Tactics – 4-4-2? Wingers? Diamond? 4-4-1-1? All formations we have seen from Orient this season; can Andy find the right balance and right starting XI? What looks like the strongest XI players on paper may not be the strongest XI as a team of players on the field.

Pride – Get the players to play for the shirt and get the effort levels back up to 100 per cent, that is all we ask as fans. We receive an enormous amount of feedback from fans who have mentioned this point so many times.

Just look at how proud Judd has been to play for this team; use him as an example.

Leadership – The senior players have to step up and lead this team and not shy away from matches. Robbie Weir is our captain and must start playing and acting like one.

Strike force – Jay Simpson, Jordan Bowery, Paul McCallum and Ollie Palmer all haven’t got going for one reason or another this season. Which strike partnership would work best under the system Andy wants to play?

All of these players at the club are good and that fact hasn’t disappeared.

In Cisak we have one of the best goalkeepers in the division, we have promotion-winning defenders in Kennedy and Tom Parkes, we have a great right-back in Nicky Hunt and great youth prospects in Pollock and Judd.

In midfield we have Gavin Massey, Nigel Atangana, who is a warrior in the middle, Michael Collins (who will surely get a longer deal) and Sandro Semedo.

Then you have our forwards.

This time last year Simpson could not stop scoring, McCallum is a confidence player, Palmer is a workhorse and Bowery was in the Oxford United squad that got promoted last season, so he has been there and done that.

We guess the elephant in the room and the burning question is will Francesco Becchetti leave Andy to manage the team and allow him to bring his own players in when the January transfer window comes along?

Andy’s post-match interview after the Doncaster defeat seemed to imply that this was the case, so hopefully Becchetti is learning from his mistakes (fingers crossed on this one)?

We strongly feel that if Andy and Danny are given the time and space to do their jobs then our fortunes will turn around.

Three of our next four fixtures are at home as we entertain Accrington Stanley, Crawley Town and Cambridge United in December, so it is up to us as supporters to get behind the team, sing and stand up for the Orient and be the 12th Man and lead Andy and the boys on to victory, as we’ll be walking along, singing a song, walking in an Edwards wonderland.

Up the O’s!
