Jonny Evans’ last-gasp header saw West Ham United held to a 2-2 draw at London Stadium by West Bromich Albion.

United went behind early on to Nacer Chadli’s excellent solo strike and struggled to get going for much of the first half.

An improved showing after the restart saw the Hammers pull level through Sofiane Feghouli before Lanzini struck a stunning leveller from distance with four minutes to play.

However, there was a further twist as a Corner deep into stoppage time found Evans who headed home to ensure the spoils were shared.

The result leave the Hammers’ 10th in the Premier League table ahead of a visit to Watford in a fortnight’s time.

West Ham were without Andy Carroll after the in-form striker failed to recover from a groin injury picked up in the 3-1 win over Southampton last week.

A 4-2 defeat at the Hawthorns when West Ham last met the Baggies represented a low point in Slaven Bilic side’s season as they shipped three goals in the first half.

Chadli was on the scoresheet twice that day and wasted little time adding to his personal tally against the Hammers as he broke the deadlock in the sixth minute.

The manner in which the former Tottenham man made his way into the box was far too easy as he slipped the ball through the legs of Cheikhou Kouyate.

He then did the same to Darren Randolph to calmly finish off a fine individual goal.

United responded well to going behind and were almost level when Robert Snodgrass’ whipped free-kick eluded everyone and forced Ben Foster into a smart save.

Slaven Bilic’s side were fortunate not to be two down with a quarter of an hour played after Salomon Rondon took aim from distance.

The striker’s volley took a wicked deflection to loop over Randolph and smack against the crossbar.

Moments later West Ham had the ball in the back of the net through Feghouli’s close-range finish, but the Algerian’s joy was short-lived as the linesman’s flag was raised.

Despite going behind, the Hammers saw more of the ball in the first half, but only really threatened in sporadic bursts.

The host’s frustration reached its peak on the cusp of the interval as Snodgrass went over in the box under a challenge from Jake Livermore.

West Ham’s January signing was adamant he should have been awarded a spot kick, but his former Hull team mate made minimal contact with the Scot.

Half-time saw Bilic opt for a tactical change as he replaced Aaron Cresswell with Jonathan Calleri, who joined Michail Antonio in attack.

The move prompted a bright start to the second period as the Hammers looked for a route back into the game.

Again they lacked a clinical touch in the final third and did little to worry a compact West Brom defence.

West Ham’s first genuine chance of the half brought the leveller with just over an hour played as Feghouli finished from close range.

The Hammers number seven reacted quickest to follow after Lanzini’s effort from the edge of the box had been tipped onto the bar by Foster.

West Brom were beginning to sit deeper and deeper and the equaliser brought the best out of the Hammers as they started to create chances more readily.

Feghouli was at the heart of much of their positive play and squared for Lanzini who saw his shot blocked at the back post.

He was denied once more with 18 minutes remaining after Foster had saved low to his right from Calleri, but could only push the ball back into his six-yard box.

With Lanzini set to pull the trigger, Gareth McAuley intervened and cleared to ball to maintain parity.

The Hammers were rewarded for their persistence late on as Lanzini picked the ball up some 25-yards from goal and worked an angle to shoot.

His left-footed drive skipped off the turf and found its way into the bottom right corner to give the Hammers what looked like the winner.

West Brom had other ideas though and a deep corner from the right found Evans unmarked at the back post and he headed back across goal to snatch a point for the visitors.
