Leyton Orient’s lost 3-1 in their final Football League game at home against Colchester United.

The match was initially abandoned after the home fans flooded the pitch in the 85th minute.

Tariq Fosu, Chris Porter and Macauley Bonne all scored to ensure they were well on their way to the play-offs.

Sandro Semedo did find the equaliser for the O’s with an absolute sublime finish from 30-yards out leaving the Colchester keeper in no man’s land.

But the game initially did not finish as the O’s faithful decided to take a stand and flood the pitch in a protest against the EFL, the FA and owner Francesco Becchetti.

The game, however, did eventually continue at 6:42pm and the U’s were given the three points to cement their spot in the play-offs.

Colchester had the first opportunity of the afternoon as Tom Eastman’s effort was deflected wide by Michael Clark.

George Elokobi got up well to meet the corner but his header was held comfortably by Sam Sargeant.

Orient’s first chance came in the 10th minute when Callum Kennedy floated in a cross from the left but it just went past Paul McCallum.

Chances soon became few and far between but the O’s did gain a shot when Jens Janse delivered a dangerous ball into the box for McCallum but Sam Walker came off his line to punch away.

Richard Brindley then tried his luck from a free-kick from a dangerous area but his shot curled inches over the bar.

The deadlock was soon broken when Fosu headed in at the far post after the cross was delivered into the box from Eastman.

The U’s had a chance to double their lead only minutes later but Sean Murray’s shot from inside the area went well wide of the post.

Orient went looking for the equaliser and Tristan Abrahams came close when he tried his luck from the edge of the area but it went high and over the bar with Walker well beaten.

Referee Carl Boyeson had to stop play in the 40th minute after Colchester supporters had thrown flare onto the pitch, but it was soon resumed.

Into the second half and United’s Wright’s had the first chance of the final 45 but his shot from 20-yards was collected by Sargeant.

And in the 52nd minute Semedo equalised with a stunning shot as he fired home from 30-yards into the far corner and the Portuguese winger was booked following his celebration with the O’s faithful.

Wright looked to quickly restore the visitors lead but the forward was stopped by Semedo who cleared for a corner.

Fosu should have scored his second of the match when he displayed fantastic skill to work his way into the area but he fired straight at the Orient keeper.

Murray went for glory in the 73rd minute but he lashed a shot over the bar after Sargeant punched Brindley’s free-kick away from danger.

Colchester scored two goals in quick succession. The first came from a terrible backpass by Jens Janse and Fosu pounced on the error to pass to Porter to tap home.

Two minutes later, Bonne added the away side’s third when he slotted the ball past Sargeant into the bottom corner.

Play had to be stopped due to Orient fans making their way onto the pitch after a red flare was thrown in front of Sam Sargeant.

After an hour the match was cancelled, however, at 6:30pm the players came back out to warm-up to finish the final five minutes of the match.

There was not much action in the final five minutes and Colchester headed back to Essex with the three points.
