Leyton Orient lost their final game in the Football League in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Neil Danns, Mark Cullen and Andy Taylor all found the net to extend their season as they gained a spot in the League Two play-offs.

Jens Janse became Orient’s last goalscorer in the League in what was a surprise to the 1000 travelling O’s faithful.

While it still remains uncertain what the future holds for the club, the fans and players both applauded one another come full-time in a show of appreciation.

The hosts gained the first chance of the game when Kyle Vassell got in behind the O’s defence but the forward could only fire straight at Sam Sargeant.

Brad Potts had a go in the seventh minute as he hit a strike with the outside of his foot but it deflected over for a corner which came to nothing.

The deadlock was soon broken when Danns headed the ball home off of a Jack Payne cross four minutes later.

Blackpool should have made it two when Mark Cullen turned well outside the O’s penalty area but his curling strike went just over the bar.

In the 21st minute, the homes side appealed for a penalty after Michael Clark blocked a Potts cross but referee David Webb waved play on.

Orient gained their first chance of the match when the O’s displayed fine passing which ended with a Sandro Semedo cross being headed away by Tom Aldred.

Cullen eventually scored the Seasiders second of the game when he picked the ball up around the 35-yard mark and drilled the ball into the corner.

The O’s responded positively when Semedo earned a corner but this came to nothing as Michael Collin’s header was headed away.

They then gained a free-kick which was superbly driven goalwards by Callum Kennedy but Sam Slocombe made a last minute save and tipped it wide.

In the final 45 it started off much like the first as Blackpool looked to seal the win but Sargeant was on hand to deny Potts before Clark cleared off the line.

Orient’s Henry Ochieng tried to reduce the deficit when he collected the ball on the half way line but his strike was held by Slocombe.

And the east Londoners managed to reduce the deficit when Janse was left one on one with the keeper and he slotted the ball into the net through the keeper’s legs.

Potts should have made it three for Blackpool with around half to an hour to play but he somehow blazed the ball over from close range when he was given plenty of space and time.

Sargeant then had to make a great save when Vassell looked certain to score with a powerful shot but the young Orient player got down low to grab the ball.

However, the hosts did eventually get their third when skipper Taylor drilled home their third in the 65th minute.

The Pool were looking for a fourth as they chased a play-off spot but Vassell fired just wide of the post.

Although their team was exiting League Two with a whimper rather than a bang, the O’s faithful were in high spirits signing ‘Becchetti (Francesco, Orient owner) Out’ and others throughout the 90 minutes.

Steven Alzate looked to pen his name on the scoresheet but his shot was blocked by Aldred following nice passing from his teammates.

Kennedy tried to replicate the free-kick he had taken in the first half but it was not to be as the ball smacked straight into the Seasider’s wall.

Sargeant showed how much potential he has when he prevented Vassell from scoring a fourth in stoppage time.

At the end of the match, the Orient players made their way over to the O’s fans to show their appreciation they have given the club over the season.
