West Ham United will travel to Germany to face Werder Bremen in the Betway Cup as part of their pre-season preparations this summer.

The friendly will be played over two-legs on the 28th and 29th of July, with the games being part of a ten day training camp, which will be the Hammers’ second in Europe after they travel to Austria from the 10th-21st July.

Slaven Bilic’s men face the Bundesliga outfit in the first leg on the 28th July at the Osterwald Stadion in Schneverdingen, before travelling to the Heinz-Dettmer Stadion in Lohne for the second leg the next day, with the winner taking home the Betway Cup.

Werder Bremen are the current holders of the Betway Cup, having beaten the Hammers 2-1 at Upton Park in 2015. The German outfit finished in eighth last season in the Bundesliga and recently lost star player Serge Gnabry to Bayern Munich.

Speaking to West Ham’s website, boss Slaven Bilic said: “The entire pre-season programme has been carefully planned to make sure we build up the preparation perfectly and reach August 12 in ideal condition.

“Although we are in Europe, the travelling is not too much, and everything is geared around what is best for the players.

"Playing back-to-back matches in Germany will ensure that the squad can work together at the same level for the vast majority of the time that we are there, and the two training camps will also be important for unity and togetherness.

"We have a number of players returning from injury at the beginning of pre-season and so it is important that our preparation is exactly right to give us the best opportunity of making the strongest possible start to the new season."
