Marko Arnautovic is hopeful of enjoying a productive stay in east London after becoming West Ham United’s all-time record signing.

The Austrian joined the Hammers from Stoke in a deal which could be worth £25 million - £20m of which has been paid for up front.

He joined up with the rest of the United squad in Germany on Monday and is looking forward to life at London Stadium.

“West Ham have a lot of quality players here. When you look at the squad, every player is one who is in that bracket now,” he told the club website.

“Now Joe Hart and [Pablo] Zabaleta have come in as well. They have a lot of experience in the Premier League and have played for Man City and are top players.

“I think we are going to make a good season, and I hope that everyone stays healthy, without injuries and we can show some good football.

“I will try to do my best and I hope to celebrate some success at West Ham.”

The opportunity to move to London was one which Arnautovic says he did not have to consider for long.

He was impressed with Hammers boss Slaven Bilic and is looking forward to starting life under the Croatian.

“The manager gives me a good feeling for the club and for myself that I can improve here. I didn’t have to think long to take this opportunity,” he said.

“I spoke also to my family and everyone was happy that the agreement was done with West Ham and now we can’t wait to get started at this club.”

The 28-year-old could get his first taste of life in claret and blue on Friday when United are due to face his former club Werder Bremen in a friendly.

Arnautovic’s focus now lies in getting accustomed to his new surroundings, which he believes are among the best in the Premier League – with the idea of playing home games at London Stadium being a big draw.

“I’ll be playing against my former club first up, but the most important thing is to get to know the players better and the club and try and settle as quickly as possible in the squad,” he said.

“I’ve been in many stadiums, and many nice ones, but when I came to London Stadium to watch Stoke, it was impressive.

“All the bubbles and all the fans cheering, it was a nice feeling. When you are a player at this club and you play in front of 57,000 people every weekend, it’s amazing.”
