The Leyton Orient Fans Trust (LOFT) has been nominated for the Outstanding Services to Sport award at the Feel Good Waltham Forest Sports Awards.

LOFT’s inclusion on the short-list for the gong comes as an acknowledgement of the work put in to help keep the club afloat during the traumatic 2016-17 season.

The trust was at the forefront of the fight to save the club after the disastrous ownership of Francesco Becchetti had threatened to en the O’s 112-year history.

In addition, the Leyton Orient Trust (LOT) has also been nominated for it’s Man v Fat scheme, which aims to help men deal with diet and fitness issues.

For LOFT chairman, Doug Harper, the recognition is well-received and offers tangible reward for the hard work put in by LOFT and LOT.

He said: “no doubt there will be a far worthier eventual winner, but it’s nice to see out efforts recognised by our local authority, who we worked with constructively during the campaign to save our club.

“This nomination, along with LOT’s, is a recognition both of the importance of the importance of the O’s to the community in Waltham Forest and for the brilliant way the whole Orient community rallied together to fight for our club’s future.”

LOFT were pivotal in the effort to rebuild Orient after the Brisbane Road outfit were served a winding-up order and relegated from the Football League in May.

They organised a number of public meetings, demonstrations and fund-raising events and represented shareholders and creditors in court.

Perhaps their most telling impact came in the form of rallying public support for Orient, not just in the local area but further afield.

They continue to support the club’s revival, with Nigel Travis, who bought Orient in June, working closely with LOFT since doing so.
