Epping Ongar Railway is set to turn the clocks back to the 1940s for a special weekend. As you arrive at any of their stations, you’ll be greeted by British troops, Yanks and 40s policemen.

Step off a heritage bus and get on board one of the railway’s wartime steam trains. There to greet you will be the Forester Highland pipe band, A2 Jive and the local WI, who will be on hand to run their HAM, JAM AND SPAM stall (while rations allow!)

A large selection of 40s vehicles will be on display at both stations for your inspection. Winston Churchill may also be putting in an appearance and MPs will be looking for German spies.

And just in case the Luftwaffe try and carry out a sneak raid, air cover will be provided by allied air power across the weekend; on Saturday, a Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster (courtesy of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight) and on Sunday, aircraft form the local airfield.

Lastly, don't forget your dancing shoes for the Saturday night hangar dance at North Weald airfield (tickets can be brought at North Weald station), money raised will go to the Veterans Charity.

Various locations, Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15. Details: eorailway.co.uk
