Canary Wharf is set to be transformed from a business and shopping district to a beach next week, for Action for Kids’ Beach Volleyball Championships.

The waterfront area of the eastern edge of Canary Wharf will be filled with more than 160 tonnes of sand by the children’s disability charity, to accommodate two beach volleyball courts. Alongside, there will be a sitting court to showcase the hugely popular Paralympic sport of sitting volleyball.

To get involved, people can pop along as a spectator for free, or for the more active, courts can be hired privately. For those who want to test their friends or colleagues, teams of five to 12 can enter the action-packed tournament on July 18 if they pledge to raise a target amount for the charity.

Action for Kids’ Beach Volleyball Championships is at Wood Wharf, adjacent to Canary Wharf, E15, June 30 until July 18.
