10:41am Thursday 5th November 2009 in Exhibitions By Kate Sole
FOR 25 years Susan P Healey’s patchwork quilt sat gathering dust in her loft. Comprised of her old school uniform, her mother’s summer dresses and garments donated by friends and family, it lay all but forgotten until an invitation to participate in the Epping Forest District Museum’s makedo&mend exhibition “brought this work back to mind”.
This Saturday, Susan will present her performance installation entitled makedo&mend: memory quilt, which will see her sitting within the heart of the exhibition working on her quilt.
Speaking about returning to the quilt, the London-based artist, who is currently studying at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, told me: “I realised the quilt contained far too many precious memories to leave it hidden away and unfinished. I am now very keen to see the work completed.”
Susan will appear at Epping Forest District Museum, Sun Street, Waltham Forest, on Saturday, November 7 and Saturday, November 21, 1pm-5pm. Details 01992 716 882
