THE magic of Walthamstow Marshes has been explored by a group of locally-based artists.
The marsh was once an area of lammas land (common land used for growing crops and grazing cattle, containing a variety of wildlife and, as such, is a designated site of special scientific interest).
Taking a leaf from sculptor Jon Mills’s book, whose Split Leaf sculpture marks the formal entrance to the marshes – poets, painters, printmakers and photographers have taken inspiration from the area of greenery and created works specifically for the exhibition.
Although each representation is different, they all have on thing in common, the artists’ appreciation of the marshes.
Walthamstow Marshes, a celebration in print, paint and photography is on display at the Coppermill, Coppermill Lane, Walthamstow, until June 8. Details: www.themill-coppermill.org or 0208 521 3211
