Foyles, UK National Bookseller of the Year 2013 and 2012, has opened the doors to its much-anticipated new store in Charing Cross Road.

Designed by architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands as ‘a bookshop for the 21st century’, the spacious former home of Central Saint Martins is just a step away from Foyles’ current location.

Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies author Hilary Mantel will formally open the new flagship bookshop on June 13, with the formal opening of each new department then undertaken by a well-loved author: Simon Armitage, poetry; Mary Beard, history and politics; Malorie Blackman, children’s and young adults; Jarvis Cocker, music; PD James, crime fiction; Mark Kermode, film and theatre; Henry Marsh, medical; Yotam Ottolenghi, cookery; Michael Palin, travel; Grayson Perry, art; Biz Stone, business;  and Sarah Waters, fiction.

Many will mark the occasion by unveiling a table of their top ten books from the department, personally recommended for Foyles’ customers to discover.

During the three week celebration, the store’s dedicated events spaces – such as the 200-seater, purpose-built, auditorium at Foyles for talks and concerts will be brought to life by activities for all ages including book signings, jazz and classical concerts, lunchtime talks, topical debates, film screenings and creative workshops.
