The 21-year-old former X Factor contestant will be doing a show at O’Neill’s in Leytonstone on Saturday in aid of the charity Dial a Dream. She talks to Amie Mulderrig.

Where in Essex are you from? Did you go to school locally?
I’m from Romford in Essex and I attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London.

A lot of people know you from The X Factor, would you ever audition for a show like that again?
Yes it has gained me a lot of fans and I am so grateful to the show.

What did you make of your experience on the X Factor?
It was the most emotional experience, but the most amazing journey of my life... so far.

Have you enjoyed public attention?
I love the attention from the fans and it’s lovely to be recognised by the public. It makes me feel very loved.

What have you been doing since The X Factor?
I’ve been so so busy doing gigs, events, charity gigs, recording and writing new songs.

What defines an Essex girl? (Other than being from Essex!)
I think all Essex girls are different. I think there used to be a stereotype of white stilettos, but I don’t think there is any more. Oh and fake tan, but I don’t wear that.

What/who influences you musically? Michael Jackson.

When did you discover you could sing?
When I was about six and I entered a talent competition and I was terrible... my mum said she would only take me back along if I really practised and I went on to win the whole competition.

What does Dial a Dream mean to you?
It’s a great charity and a great cause and I can’t wait to perform and help raise lots of money for them.

O’Neill’s Leytonstone, High Road, Leytonstone, on August 23, noon-3am, and August 24, from noon-2am. Lydia will be performing on Saturday.
