A musical marathon will take over the Ye Olde Rose and Crown this bank holiday in aid of a local charity.

The Walthamstow pub will play host to the second-ever Stow-a-Thon, 24 hours of free live music stretching from noon on Sunday (May 3) to noon on Monday (May 4).

The irrepressible Graham Larkbey will kick off proceedings and bring them to a close as well. In between will be jammed full of sets by everyone from three-year-olds to middle-aged rockers, all drawn from in and around Walthamstow.

There will be full bands, choirs, singer songwriters and talented youngsters with the line-up including headliners Tina T’s Soul & Funk jam, The Higham Flyers, Waltham Forest Voices, Musical Youth London, The East Lonesome Drifters, Anna Skodbo and Walthamstow Folk Club.

It is a sister event to the main Stow Festival and will be raising money and awareness for local charity The Limes, a community children’s centre for disabled children.

Its chief executive Liz Fraser says: “It’s fantastic to be involved in such a creative and different event.

“We’re really looking forward to playing our part. Having community support for our centre is another example of what is so good about Walthamstow.”
