Immerse yourself in the dazzling world of Bollywood and see exclusive screenings and talks from insiders at a four-day festival over the bank holiday.

Bollywood Fever boasts 20 screenings of cult classics, tantalising street food, live music, dancers, mehndi artists, an exhibition on the top ten moments in Bollywood and a photo exhibition chronicling the events of Bhopal, which was devastated by a pesticide plant leak in 1984.

Charity Bhopal Medical Appeal will be there to raise awareness of the disaster, which saw 500,000 people exposed to toxic substances, the effects of which are still prevalent today.

1) The opening night will also treat guests to an exclusive screening of Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain, starring Martin Sheen, Mischa Barton and Kal Penn. There will also be a panel discussing the development of the Bollywood industry which features the film’s writer and director Ravi Kumar and other industry experts.

East London and West Essex Guardian Series:

2) Sholay (May 23) stars Ramesh Sippy as former police officer whose family is murdered by a notorious and ruthless bandit and who enlists the services of two outlaws to capture him.

3) Released in 1960 and starring Prithviraj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, and Durga Khote, Mughal-e-Azam (May 25) is a historical epic, inspired by true events, in which a 16th Century prince falls in love with a court dancer and battles with his emperor father.

4) The Lunchbox (May 25), released in 2013, is a modern tale of a mistaken delivery in Mumbai’s famously efficient lunchbox delivery system, which connects a young housewife to an older man in the dusk of his life as they build a fantasy world together through notes in the lunchbox.

5) Celebrating ten years since its release, My Brother… Nikhil (May 25), directed by Onir and starring Sanjay Suri, Juhi Chawla, Purab Kohil, is the festival’s final movie and tells the story of how famous swimmer Nikhil Kapoor deals with the repercussions of announcing the fact that he has HIV/AIDS.
