Whether you revere or revile them, the dark world of the Krays continues to fascinate us and now you can examine their lives up close at new exhibition Legend of the East End.

It has been created to tie in with the release of Brian Helgeland’s Legend, in which Tom Hardy does a double take as both of the murderous brothers.

Bosses behind the blockbuster went all out to hunt down new facts about the twins before filming began, interviewing family and friends and gathering information on their lives in Vallance Road, Bethnal Green, Reggie's marriage to childhood sweetheart Frances Shea, her suicide, the stories of their bisexuality. Ronnies alleged affair with a Lord and the crimes committed by them and their gang “the firm” that ran protection rackets with their nightclubs and bars in Soho and the East End.

Their reign of terror end when they were brought down by Inspector Leonard "Nipper" Read and his Scotland Yard Murder Squad and jailed for the murder's of George Cornell, who Ronnie shot in the Blind Beggar pub in 1966 after the henchman of the Richardsons’ rival mob called him a “big fat poof”, and Jack "The Hat" McVitie a member of their own gang who Reggie stabbed to death in the basement of a flat in Evering Road, Stoke Newington for failing to carry out a contract killing.

Now StudioCanal has brought together artefacts include original suits belonging to Ronnie Kray, childhood snapshots of the brothers and have recreated their living room with wallpaper, sofas and tea.

It features photography from the likes of Don McCullin, Brian Duffy, Steven Berkoff, and Jocelyn Bain Hogg.

The exhibition runs at 135 Bethnal Green Road from August 28 to September 11, from 11am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 7pm on Saturday and 9am to 6pm on Sunday. Admission is free.

Legend is out on Wednesday, September 9.
