The stunning Union Chapel has been named London’s Favourite Music Venue in the inaugural London Music Awards.

Just off Upper Street in Islington, it remains a working church while hosting big names such as Laura Mvula and has upcoming events featuring Nik Kershaw and Caitlin Moran.

It went home with the accolade, which was voted for by Time Out readers, following a glittering ceremony at Roundhouse last week, presented by radio and TV presenter Margherita Taylor, Channel 4 News anchor Jon Snow and award-winning composer Rachel Portman OBE.

Hornsey-born Jazzie B, founder of chart topping dance music pioneers Soul II Soul, was named London Legend and also performed at the event.

The awards were hosted by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson and raised money for the Mayor’s Music Fund, which in two years has given out grants worth £1.3m, benefiting more than 14,000 young musicians.
