His extravagant nuptials to Kim Kardashian have been all over the press and Kanye West is now preparing to bring a 60 foot mountain to Finsbury Park for his headlining set at Wireless.

The American artist doesn’t travel lightly and festival promoter Steve Homer says it will be ‘entertaining’ trying to fit his show on the stage.

The crowds can also expect a few surprises and unannounced collaborations between artists, which include headliners Bruno Mars and Drake.

It is the first year the festival has come to Finsbury Park, after being held in Hyde Park and Queen Elizabeth Park in previous years, and Steve hopes the crowds of up to 49,999 will prefer the more compact layout.

He says of the move: “There aren’t many parks that aren’t already being used (for live music). There are surprisingly few options. We have had to do some work to make it suitable but the local council have been very supportive.”

This is the tenth Wireless and the sixth year it has run as an urban pop festival, and will be the first time it will also be replicated in Birmingham.

Steve says that has been hard for some acts to ‘get their head around’ but they’ve managed to create a‘strong and broad’ line-up ‘reflecting what people are buying’.

“Kiesza has just had a number one single, Clean Bandits have had a massive single and Neon Jungle have a current chart single. There aren’t many acts that are capable of headlining Wireless,“ he adds.

“Kanye was at the first urban one we did and he’s back for the first time in six years. Bruno has played before but it’s the first time he’s headlining and Pharrell hasn’t done it for nine years. We have wanted Rudimental and Ellie Goulding for a couple of years.”

Steve, who is already working on next year’s line-up, says he was really pleased to have secured Outkast for this year’s festival.

“We are one of the only festivals where they are not headlining but we have got them to be special guests for Bruno Mars, which is good for them because it will open them up to a younger audience.”
