HIGHAMS PARK: Man dies after being hit by train

A WALTHAMSTOW man died after being hit by a train near Highams Park station this morning.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said the 35-year-old was struck by the train between Highams Park and Wood Street stations.

She added:"The driver was travelling at 50 mph when he saw a man lying on the track.

"He applied the emergency break but was not able to stop and struck him."

She added a file will be handed to the coroner.

BTP were called at 4.50am and are treating the incident as non-suspicious.

National Express East Anglia run services between Chingford and Liverpool Street.

A spokeswoman said:"Things are returning back to normal. As of 9.20am there are delays of ten minutes.

"The 4.28am service from Chingford to Liverpool Street hit a man. It was empty and was re-routed to a depot in Ilford after the incident."

The lines were closed at 4.45am and were re-opened at 6.24am.

The BTP are urging anyone with information to call them on 0800 40 50 40.
