Hammers on red alert after Cisse admits he's keen on Premier League return

1:18pm Friday 16th May 2008

WEST Ham could be alerted to the news that former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is keen on a move back to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old Frenchman - who scored 13 goals in 49 appearances during two seasons with the Merseysiders between 2004 and 2005 - is looking for a way out of Marseille after coming in for some criticism from the supporters, despite scoring 14 league goals this season.

He admits a return to England would be an opportunity too good to turn down.

That has put the Irons - who were linked with the striker in the summer - on red alert, while Manchester City are also believed to be monitoring the situation.

"England is a country which attracts me," Cisse told L'Equipe.

"It is true that the fans are very different. When I go back to Liverpool it is like I am still playing there.

"Of course I would love the chance to play in the Premier League again. But I still have three years remaining on my contract in France."

A move away from the French club could be soon after the player insisted that he wants his future sorted out before Euro 2008, if selected by France.

"I will make a decision soon and I don't want to hear anything about money or transfers during the competition," added Cisse.

"I have missed so many opportunities to play in a big international competition that I don't want to be disturbed if I am selected to be in Switzerland.

"My decision regarding my future will have no link with Marseille gaining Champions League qualification.

"Anyway, we have one game remaining and we have to do out best to get the Champions League spot.

"I will repeat it once again, that people here have really hurt me. Will I be able to forget it all? I don't know."

And Marseille boss Eric Gerets admitted that the club would be unable to stand in Cisse's way if a Premier League club comes calling.

"If there is an appealing bid from England for Djibril, then he is likely to leave," said Gerets.
