A SERIES of events are to be held across Waltham Forest to remember Britain's war dead this weekend.

On Remembrance Sunday (November 11) a parade will leave from Walthamstow's Lloyd Park at around 10.30am to the town hall in Forest Road.


There will be a two minutes silence at 11am followed by a civic service of remembrance.
 

In Chingford the parade will leave from outside Chingford Fire Station at 10.40am, walking to the war memorial at the junction of Kings Head Hill.
 

There will then be a short service followed by another one in the nearby Church of SS Peter and Paul.


The Leyton there is a gathering at 9.30am at the Buckingham Road gates to Coronation Gardens.


The service is due to finish at 10.15am when there will be a parade to St Mary's Parish Church for another service at 10.30am.
 

In Leytonstone a service will be held at 10.30am at the Harrow Green Memorial in the High Road.

On Saturday (November 10) a special memorial will be held at half time during Leyton Orient FC's home game against Shrewsbury Town.


It will honour the players, supporters and staff of Clapton Orient FC - as Leyton Orient used to be known - who died fighting for the so-called 'Footballers Battalion' during World War One.


Relatives of William Jonas and Richard McFadden - players who died during the Battle of the Somme in 1916 - will join Royal British Legion members and a band on the pitch.


On Sunday (November 11) the club will host a reading of a play based on the book 'The Greater Game' about Clapton Orient FC, which is written by Stephen Jenkins of the supporters club.


It takes place in the Gallery Bar of the West stand at 6pm, with tickets costing £10.
