A CONTROVERSIAL sign erected on a takeaway shop front has been changed.
The BBQ Express sign in Wanstead High Street was labelled garish by some people living nearby when it appeared at the former Chicken Spot premises last month.
The Wanstead Society formally told the council it objected to the sign, which is in a conservation area.
The flames backing the name BBQ Express have now been removed and the sign appears smaller.
The Guardian has been unable to contact anyone at the shop so far.
A spokesman for Redbridge Council said: "We can confirm that the previous sign was removed as a result of negotiations with the proprietor. The council has not yet revisited the site to assess the new sign."
