MEMBERS of a synagogue collected over 200 tins and packets for a hostel for homeless people.

During Mitzvah Day on Sunday, the congregation of Woodford Liberal Synagogue in Malborough Road, South Woodford, joined 25,000 other Jews across the country to donate their time to good causes.

The food was donated to Jason Lee House in York Road, Ilford.

Rabbi Richard Jacobi said: "This was an afternoon that brought together the young and the old as well as those who have much and those who have less, and I hope taught us all about or responsibility towards each other.

"Doing a Mitzvah is a duty and I think today displayed this duty."

At a time when an explosive device was delivered to a jewish household in Clayhall, this is a particularly kind gesture. If the terrorists (the police do not consider it a terrorist act but they are wrong) channelled their energies into helping the people they care about, rather than killing the people they don't, everyone would win.

It is in their traits that they carry on regardless despite attacks on their homes, verbal racism and physical assaults.

This is a wonderful gesture.

Yes, lovely people shelling Palestinian civilians and, to quote on of their leaders, bringing a "holocaust" to Gaza. Indeed, lovely.

You obviously choose (like the BBC) to ignore the thousands of Rockets sent over to Israel every year?
2 wrongs don't make a right.

Why? What we are talking about is about a string Israeli, backed by the USA, which comes about through a Jewish connections, shelling Palestinians. How often do we hear about the Jews suffering in Europe at the hands of the Germans (not Nazis, but ordinary Germans) - and off they go and do it to Palestinians (who were there first by the way). Views on other religions are irrelevant.

If this is turning into a debate on religion, then we should look at the Gaza Strip. Israel gave it back. True, only after intervention, but they did it. This particular episode was started by Palastine using violence first, knowing, as you say, Israel is much stronger. Why? Violence is not the way for Palastine to get what they want. It has been proven time and again over the years so why do they continue to do it? I do not side one way or the other. I am not there to see and I don't trust the media to report unbiasedly, but I know that this kind of violence is not the answer.
We were only commenting here on a synagogue in Woodford helping homeless people......how has it provoked a verbal attack on them? Can mankind ever live peacefully together? I doubt it!
