European Union gives body grant to promote tourism in rural parts of Essex

East London and West Essex Guardian Series: £228,000 to go towards rural tourism £228,000 to go towards rural tourism

MORE than £200,000 is to be put towards tourism in rural areas of the county.

The European Union has given Visit Essex a £114,000 match-funding grant towards the cause, meaning the authority had to put up the same figure to receive it.

The money will fund a two-year project to promote sport and culture run by the body, which is a public-private partnership that promotes the county as a tourist destination.

And where, exactly, does your reporter think the cash came from?

Britain pays into the EU vastly more than any benefits we receive back. Usually any funds returned to us (as with other member states) have to be matched by local funding and the EU has to be advertised as the donor.

In fact we would be able to fund many projects like this several times over if we did not have to pay the EU its tribute each year which is enormous.

I calculated that a mere 18 hours out of the EU would save us enough cash to pay for all the cuts to Essex police which is creating over 300 job cuts for constables.

No more reports on the generous EU which in truth is only returning our own money!

GREAT !
We pay £114k to receive £114k returned from what we pay to the EU.
This money has been laundered at heavens knows what additional costs as it has passed to and from the UK.
If we left the EU we would be BETTER OFF OUT.
We could then decide where to spend our own money .At the end of the day WE ,UK taxpayers ,are paying the full £228k.
I hope this project is more successful than the Bank of Essex, brainchild of the ex convict Lord Hanningfield aka Michael White.
