SCOTTISH pipers helped drum up support as they led a sponsored walk in aid of the Poppy Appeal.

The Epping Forest Pipe Band marched through Chingford on Sunday morning, leading sponsored walkers from the Royal British Legion club and encouraging bystanders to donate.

Walkers and pipers also paused to pay their respects at the new war memorial, unveiled earlier this month on the obelisk at the junction of Chingford Mount, Hall Lane and Old Church Road.

Sandy Barrick-Bredin, of the pipe band, said: “We were so lucky with the weather as the stormy clouds broke to show a beautiful blue sky for the walkers and marchers.

“We marched the route leading the sponsored groups, including Cllr Geoff Walker and standard bearers, encouraging the local public to come out of their houses to cheer us on and hopefully drop some money in the collection buckets."
