A COMPANY providing care for the elderly is expanding to meet the increased demand created by an ageing population.

Home Instead Senior Care in Billet Road, Walthamstow, currently provides support for more than 100 pensioners in Waltham Forest, but that number is set to rise by 30 per cent over the next 12 months.

The firm wants to increase the number of staff it has by 30 to match that increase, and bring its total staffing level to 95.

Local managing director Ben Barraco said: "Our growth certainly reflects the huge increase we are seeing in our elderly population but, with social care very much in the spotlight in recent months, we are also seeing a greater understanding of the issues facing our elderly population.

"Older people, and their families, are becoming more aware of the care options that are available to them. They realise that they do not have to accept a standard ‘one size fits all’ solution of short-duration, task based care."

Home Instead carers support patients with a range of services, from companionship, meal preparation and light housekeeping to medication reminders and post-discharge care for private patients or those receiving direct payments.
