HIGH school students proved they had a head for numbers by impressing a panel of Bank of England experts.

A team of four from Chigwell School triumphed in the regional heats of the Target Two Point Zero economics competition, run by the Bank and The Times, in Luton on November 26.

Pupils were challenged to assess economic conditions and explain to judges the monetary policy they would set to achieve the government’s inflation target of 2.0 per cent.

Chigwell’s team of Jason Driver, Anastasia Mishchanenko, Ben Silverstone and Jack Mitchell beat six others to make it through to the area finals in February.

If successful, the group will land a place in the national grand final at the Bank of England.

The school’s head of economics Ron Spicer said: “The Chigwell team has so far found the competition a very good learning experience and a fun activity in which to be involved.

“They are looking forward to the area finals where they hope to give a good performance and have another very enjoyable day.”
