A TEENAGE girl has become the first recipient of a prestigious award at a synagogue.

Yasmin Muswell, 18, received the Jack Petchey Award on Saturday for her dedication to the religious school known as Cheder at Woodford Liberal Synagogue in Marlborough Road, South Woodford.

Miss Muswell was a teacher at the school before leaving to attend university.

With the prize money Miss Muswell has decided to buy a video camera for the Cheder.

Josh Newham, Cheder headteacher, said: " Yasmin is a very worthy winner of the Jack Petchey Award and she received over 80 per cent of the votes."
