A FOREST visitor centre could be transformed into a café, restaurant or activity centre after it was put up for rent.

The City of London Corporation is seeking a tenant for the High Beach visitor centre, next to the Kings Oak Hotel.

The building has been on the site for about 20 years. It was purpose built and houses one of Epping Forest's four information centres, along with a shop, displays and toilets.

The Corporation, which owns and manages Epping Forest, has suggested the new tenant should operate the centre 'with a predominant cafeteria use', together with an activity centre promoting cycling, walking, orienteering, fishing or other forest leisure pursuits.

Applicants have until January 14 to submit their offers of annual rent to the forest superintendent.
