TRAVELLERS were evicted from public land after Waltham Forest Council secured a court order to force them to move on.

The group arrived in Ive Farm Playing Fields in Leyton on November 26, and council officers found the authority’s locks had been broken and replaced.

Social workers carried out health and welfare checks on the families before giving them application forms for a permanent traveller site.

The council then approved the formal eviction process on December 10, and the travellers were given seven days to leave.

When they had not left by December 19, officers obtained a court order from Stratford Magistrates Court and the travellers left peacefully, without the police needing to intervene.
