SIGNED goalkeeping gloves and a signed picture of the cast of an ITV detective programme helped raise £1,400 for Haven House children's hospice.

Shelz restaurant, Hale End Road, Highams Park, held its first anniversary with 135 guests and at the same time raised money for the Woodford Green charity.

There were auctions where one of the top lots was a signed pair of gloves from Spurs and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson which fetched £175.

Another prize was a signed picture of the cast of Vincent donated by actor and charity patron Ray Winstone, which raised £180.

Haven House events manager Avril Mills said: "It costs £1.3 million a year to keep Haven House going so we need as much money as we can.

"Everyone had a nice time and it was nice to see everyone enjoying themselves. We are very grateful to the restaurant and all those who gave generously."

Shelz restaurant owner Fakhrul Amin said: "We wanted to thank our customers and we wanted to support a local hospice. A lot of our customers support Haven House as well.

"We served our guests ten different varieties of food like meat dansak, chicken khori, and aloo tikki. There were starters, main courses and desserts. Customers also enjoyed our free bar which included free champagne, wine and beer.

"Everyone enjoyed themselves and some customers stayed until 2am. We had a jazz trio band and some of the customers were dancing and singing."

Haven House would like as many people as possible to attend its Christmas market and bazaar on November 25. Adults will have to pay 50p entry but children and pensioners are free.

Father Christmas will be making an appearance and there will be plenty of toys available for children and opportunities for present buying. There may also be a mystery celebrity guest.

It takes place at All Saints Church, Inmans Row, Woodford Green, from 11am to 3pm. For more information call 077159 90093 or 8506 3631.
