Dancers, cyclists and designers helped net £3,000 for charity at the New Year’s Day Parade.

The Waltham Forest float was judged fifth best in London, winning £3,000 for Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme.

The float had 32 dancers from X7eaven dance academy in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, and was designed and dressed by professional carnival director and designer Lincoln Rahamut, of Waltham Forest art group Mas Art.

It was flanked by three cyclists from the Highams Park Coaching Academy and the Mayor of Waltham Forest, Cllr Richard Sweden, on his tandem bike.

He said: ““It was a tremendous honour to take part in this year’s New Year's Day Parade and I can’t think of a better way to begin 2013.

“I’d like to congratulate the talented individuals who joined me and thank them for their efforts and determination.

“It’s a tremendous achievement, and the prize money will make a real difference to a grassroots sporting organisation which contributes a great deal to life here in Waltham Forest.”
