Organisers of a community project designed to increase the amount of food grown locally are holding an open day to celebrate the launch of the scheme.
Eco group Transition Leytonstone started preparing Church Lane Community Garden in Harold Road for cultivation around five months ago, and said the plot of land is now ready for green-fingered residents to come and grow their own produce.
There will be a kids’ treasure hunt, poetry and other entertainments including seed sowing at the open day between 11am and 3pm on Sunday, January 27.
The food growing project at Church Lane Community Garden in Harold Road, Leytonstone, was started five months ago by Transition Leytonstone and the site is now ready for green-fingered residents to come and lend a hand.
Waltham Forest Council and the London 2012 Changing Places Programme helped provide funding for a series of free gardening workshops and projects with local schools and markets to increase the production and sale of locally-sourced food, details of which are expected soon.
