Organisers of a community project designed to increase the amount of food grown locally have postponed an open day to celebrate the launch of the scheme.
Eco group Transition Leytonstone will now open Church Lane Community Garden in Harold Road on February 10 after they decided it would not be ready in time for the opening planned for this Sunday.
The plot of land will then be available for green-fingered residents to come and grow their own produce.
There will be a kids’ treasure hunt, poetry and other entertainments including seed sowing at the open day between 11am and 3pm on the new opening day.
The food growing project at Church Lane Community Garden in Harold Road, Leytonstone, was started five months ago by Transition Leytonstone.
Waltham Forest Council and the London 2012 Changing Places Programme helped provide funding for a series of free gardening workshops and projects with local schools and markets to increase the production and sale of locally-sourced food, details of which are expected soon.
