Six people, including a three-year-old girl and a one-year-old baby, have been taken to hospital after inhaling smoke at a house fire in Barkingside.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said the children were taken to Whipps Cross as a precaution.

A woman in her seventies was also rushed to hospital with severe smoke inhalation.

Two women in their thirties and an elderly man are also being treated for smoke inhalation.

Fire engines from Hainault, Ilford, Woodford, and Walthamstow were called to the house in Forest Road, Barkingside just after 9.30am this morning.

The cause of the fire is unknown at the moment.
