Teen from Walthamstow arrested in 'Muslim vigilante' video probe

A teenager from Walthamstow has been arrested in connection with an investigation into homophobic harassment by "Muslim vigilantes".

The 17-year-old was held by officers this morning after a video was posted on the internet of a young man being taunted for being gay in a "Muslim area".

The Met says it does not know where the video was filmed or when, but officers from Tower Hamlets are investigating and the gang behind the video is thought to be based in Whitechapel.

Four other men have been arrested, aged 19, 22, 25 and 29, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and public order offences.

The 22-year-old is from Acton but the addresses of the other men have not been released.

Police are appealing for the man in the video to come forward.

Arrests have been made "in connection with" and "on suspicion of". This is correct wording.

Where would you add the word "allegedly"?

So, the 'self filmed' evidence of this group telling people to throw their alcohol away because it was "A muslim area" goes unmentioned. It takes a 'homophobic' remark to make it news?

“Allegedly” being gay …. On the first report they featured a picture of the man being harassed, I’ve not seen the full video but there’s an assertion is that this individual is gay.. He might not be, I’m actually really glad they (and the BBC) removed the picture as it’s bad for enough for him to be harassed but without knowing anything about this mans background having the world and it’s mother know he’s gay (or assuming he’s gay) especially in an area where he has already been harassed is hardly in his best interests.

Thanks, Dion. Good point. Sometimes I can't believe this stuff is happening in 21st century. On the one hand, gay marriage is debated (and nearly won) in the Church of England and registrars lose their jobs for refusing to do civil partnerships. Yet at the same time, this backward rubbish is proliferating in our capital city.

This was reported in the Daily Mail at the start of this week, was on their website then removed mysteriously and has been repeatedly played down by the press and not picked up or reported until now here.

Why was this?

Can you imagine if a group of skin heads were going around telling Muslim Girls to drop the veil?

I am sorry to say when walking through Whitechapel (Tower Hamlets) in broad afternoon daylight some time ago I was subjected to similar intimidation by a young man (without the gay references ) I do not happen to be gay but that I am sure wouldn't stop some using it as an excuse for intimidation of any single male (just as they accuse woman of being a pro* etc on some of these self styled "morality patrols" ) and I was actually struck lightly but firmly on the back of the head just before this happened then told to "keep walking".
I spoke to a man I saw nearby as a possible witness and told him what had just happened nearby but he didn't want to know or get involved.
There must be no no-go areas anywhere in our city for anyone.

Why I wonder this was reported last week in the national press but only now has made the local.

It was covered in the Daily Telegraph. Other publications may choose to ignore the story and use the " community relations " multi culti crap as a reason not to report. There are in fact several gay muslim fundamentalist young men who meet up in a small discrete car park.....my friend sees all from his window....maybe he can film them kissing etc and post that....watch for the fireworks...!! At least this time there seems to be some form of investigation as previously their actions are ignored - using the " community harmony" excuse.

This paper has ignored the 'anti alcohol' behaviour of the muslim group in the above report while other newspapers did cover it - that was my point. Is it an attempt to play down the extent of the groups activities?

There has also been very little reporting about the muslim paedophiles, bot those currently on trial, and those alleged to have been involved in mainly muslim areas. In all instances, the victims have been white girls. I believe that the police are already letting many incidents in this areas be decided by "community elders" (i.e. sharia courts).

The white, indigenous people in Britain have spent hundreds of years working towards women's rights, suffrage for women, ending slavery and many other aspects of a civilised society. However, the muslims, wether they be immigrants or also indigenous, are dragging Britain back to the middle ages. There will be a time when they hold power due to their propensity to vote in line with what they are told by their community leaders. Once this happens, we will see laws chaged to separate the sexes, ban alcohol, shops to sell only halal meat (already happening in some supermarkets) and, I assume, ban dogs as pets or from public spaces.

You have been warned.

No it was not ignored but it appeared on the Mail On Line Website then disappeared and it seems that for some reason it was withdrawn hastily as though they needed to verify before publicising it and also this paper did not pick up on the story or failed to air it until many days afterwards, whilst, as Alan rudely pointed out above, it had been reported elsewhere.

I also saw it in The Mail after cornbeefur posted the link in another story, it is still there, then it appeared on the BBC web site.

When the Guardian first posted the story here, there was more to the article, within minutes it was removed and the Alcohol part of the story was removed, only leaving this story.
