A car ploughed into two people and then sped off during a mass brawl outside a nightclub, according to witnesses.

Residents living in the Manor Court Lodge retirement complex next door to Funky Mojoe nightclub in High Road, South Woodford, witnessed the fight in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Janet Shea, who lives in the block, said: “I have never seen anything like it, there must have been 40 or 50 people fighting out there.

“We phoned the police because we were so frightened. I was shaking with it all.

“There was one fella covered in blood.”

Her sister Lynda Edwards added: “I was on the phone to the police telling them what was happening when a car came speeding down the road on the wrong side.

“It hit two people and then sped off towards George Lane.

“I think they were OK, but one of them was lying in the road for a while before the police got here.

“There was blood everywhere.

“We are being terrorised every weekend and it is making us all ill.”

The reports of trouble are the latest in a long list of complaints made by people living near Funky Mojoe.

Residents have held several public meetings with police, politicians and representatives of the nightclub about ASB issues.

Following the latest incident, Church End ward councillor Richard Hoskins received several emails from worried people living near the club.

He said: “The continuing and escalating violence around Mojoes cannot be allowed to continue.

“Redbridge may feel it is accumulating evidence to justify action against Mojoes but the price is being paid by the disturbance and misery it is causing neighbours.

“It is not an acceptable price to ask them to continue paying.

“We have repeatedly called for a full licence review of Mojoes. But as far as the public can see Redbridge has not responded.

“The council may feel it is wisely observing and preparing to act but the public feel they have done their bit in collecting and passing information to officers and that officers still hold back for more.

“The continuing pattern of events and delays before Redbridge takes action are adding to misery of long suffering residents. It is not acceptable.”

The Guardian has attempted to contact Redbridge Police for more information but has been unable to speak to anyone.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service confirmed that paramedics had treated one man for facial injuries at the scene before taking him to hospital.

Funky Mojoe declined to comment.
