Pyjama clad youngsters turned up for school with their teddy bears to help raise money for a Ghanaian school.
The year one pupils at Avanti Court Primary School in Barkingside raised £112 at the PJ and Bring Your Teddy Day on Friday.
The money will be presented to a school in Sunyani, Ghana, when Avanti Court staff travel to Africa next month as part of the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms Project.
The children also made a treasure box of their favourite things which will be presented to children in Ghana.
Junaida Bana, deputy head at Avanti Court Primary, said: “Our children do not know much about how children learn in Ghana, especially in smaller towns like Sunyani.
“I am looking forward to our week long trip which will be an enlightening experience.”
Connecting Classrooms is designed to help young people learn about global issues and become responsible citizens.
Representatives from three other Redbridge schools - William Torbitt Primary, Little Heath Special School and Oaks Park High – will also be making the trip to Africa.
