CCTV footage of a mass brawl outside a nightclub has been described as being like something out of a horror film.

At a meeting of the council’s Area Two committee last night, Sergeant Chris Chandler of Redbridge police, confirmed that police were studying footage of a brawl outside Funky Mojoe in High Road, South Woodford.

The fight happened in the early hours of Sunday morning and led to several calls to police.

Sgt Chandler said: “When police units attended there was no sign of the fight in the immediate vicinity and there were no allegations made by those who were there.

“At the moment inquiries are being made with CCTV.”

But councillor Richard Hoskins of Church End Ward said he had already viewed CCTV footage of the incident taken by cameras at the Manor Court Lodge retirement complex next door to the bar.

He said: “When police turned up all may have been peace in the land.

“But I spent three quarters of an hour watching CCTV today.

“It is the most horrendous video. I am not sure if I would call it a riot or affray.

“There are 40 people – men and women – slugging it out, screaming at each other.

“Belts and bottles were used and at one point a car draws up, some lads go across, point back down the road and have some conversation.

“The car does a u-turn and drives through the crowd and some people lying on the road.

“I have never seen such an awful, horrendous, scary video outside of watching a horror film.

“And this all took place outside a retirement home.

“You can see the people emerging from Mojoes, clearly drunk, fighting drunk.

“It is shameful and it must never be allowed to be repeated.”

Cllr Hoskins has called on Redbridge Council to review Funky Mojoe’s licence in light of the incident.

A spokeswoman for Redbridge council said: "The Council is currently considering this incident along with other incidents that have taken place near the venue in recent months.

"We will be shortly agreeing appropriate action to take using the powers that exist under the licensing laws and will notify the relevant parties once a decision has been made."

Funky Mojoe declined to comment.
